As winter settles over the Centennial State of Colorado, Metro Denver transforms into a wonderland of seasonal activities. With its stunning mountain backdrop, cozy urban vibe, and endless outdoor adventures, Denver has something for everyone in the colder months. Whether you’re looking to stay warm indoors or venture out into the snow, here are some of the best winter activities to enjoy in and around Denver this season.

1. Ice Skating at Local Rinks

Winter is the perfect time to lace up your skates and hit one of Denver’s outdoor rinks. The Downtown Denver Rink at Skyline Park is a local favorite, offering free entry and skate rentals for a small fee. Looking for a more scenic option? Head to Evergreen Lake, one of the largest outdoor ice rinks in the U.S. and enjoy skating surrounded by snowy trees and mountains.

2. Catch a Game or Concert at Ball Arena

If you’re a sports fan, winter is prime time to watch the Denver Nuggets or Colorado Avalanche in action. With passionate fans and an electric atmosphere, Ball Arena is the place to be for some indoor winter excitement and only a short drive from Camden RiNo. Not a sports fan? Ball Arena also hosts big-name concerts throughout the season, making it a great spot for live entertainment.

3. Take a Day Trip to the Mountains for Snow Sports

With world-renowned ski resorts just a short drive from Denver, winter sports are a big draw for locals and visitors alike. Popular spots like Winter Park, Breckenridge, and Vail offer fantastic skiing and snowboarding. For a less intense option, try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing at places like Echo Lake or Eldora Mountain. Most resorts also offer tubing and sledding, which are perfect winter activities for both kids and adults.

4. Experience Holiday Markets and Festivals

Denver’s winter is filled with holiday cheer thanks to its festive markets and events. Don’t miss the Denver Christkindlmarket, a German-inspired holiday market in Civic Center Park, where you’ll find holiday treats, handcrafted gifts, and live music. Other seasonal events include the Parade of Lights and the Denver Zoo Lights, both guaranteed to surround you with the holiday spirit.

5. Warm Up at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science

Take shelter from the elements by exploring one of the city’s many museums! The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is an ideal spot to spend a chilly day, with exhibits ranging from ancient Egyptian mummies to a stunning planetarium show. If you’re bringing kids, the Discovery Zone is a hit for hands-on learning.

6. Sip Hot Chocolate (or Craft Beer) at Cozy Cafes and Breweries

Denver is known for its craft beer scene, but winter is also a great time to cozy up with a hot chocolate at one of the city’s many cafes. Stop for a hot drink like Lost Coffee, a locally owned gourmet coffee company located only a short drive from Camden Highlands Ridge, before going on a winter adventure. For evening adventures, popular breweries like Wynkoop Brewing or Great Divide are known to offer seasonal brews fit for the season. For a true winter treat, visit Union Station for holiday decorations and a cup of cocoa in the beautifully decorated historic terminal.

7. Visit Local Holiday Light Exhibits

Every winter, exhibits pop up all around the city to help embrace the holiday season! One of my personal favorites is Luminova, a program that transforms Elitch Gardens into a winter wonderland from late November through December. Enjoy the park's stunning light exhibitions, trendy shops, and exciting rides. Denver Botanic Gardens also hosts a dazzling annual Blossoms of Light display. Wander through the gardens illuminated by millions of twinkling lights, including interactive displays and holiday-themed treats. It’s a perfect date night or family-friendly event to bring some warmth to your winter evenings.

8. Enjoy Winter Hiking or Birdwatching

Denver’s proximity to open spaces makes it easy to enjoy outdoor activities even in winter. Try a winter hike on one of the many trails near Camden Denver West or head to Cherry Creek State Park for birdwatching. Both offer trails that are generally accessible year-round, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet in nature.

9. Take a Scenic Drive to See the Snow-Capped Rockies

If you’re not in the mood to brave the cold but still want to appreciate the beauty of winter, take a scenic drive up I-70 towards the Rockies. There are several pull-offs and viewpoints where you can soak in the snow-covered mountains without ever leaving your car. A drive through Rocky Mountain National Park or up Lookout Mountain Road provides equally breathtaking views closer to the city.

10. Relax at a Spa or Hot Springs

After a day of winter activities, there’s nothing better than unwinding at one of Denver’s top-notch spas. For a luxurious treat, check out The Oxford Hotel’s spa or The Ritz-Carlton. If you’re up for a scenic drive, Colorado’s hot springs, like those in Glenwood Springs or Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Springs, offer a natural way to relax in the warmth while surrounded by snow-covered scenery.

11. Shop for a New Camden Apartment

Though moving in the winter may not be on the top of your list, apartment shopping during the winter can be a smart move. The moving season tends to slow in colder climates during the winter months, which can mean more tour availability and lower rent prices when compared to the bustling summer. Whether you’re looking for a suburban feel like Camden Lakeway or a mountainous getaway to Camden Flatirons, Camden Denver has something for everyone!

From bustling city lights to quiet mountain getaways, winter in Metro Denver is full of unique activities for every type of traveler. Whether you’re embracing the cold with outdoor adventures or staying warm indoors with a hot drink or a museum visit, Denver has something to keep the winter season lively and memorable.
